Buses from Shimla

Government Bus Services in Shimla

HPRTC (Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation) provides bus services within Shimla City and also outside it. Bus services in Shimla starts very early. Buses are available from 7 am in the morning and it is available till 9 pm in the evening. The buses start and arrive timely and they are very frequent. The fares of these buses are reasonable. The journey is very enjoyable as one could enjoy the mountain ranges, lush green forests and zig-zag roads on which the buses ply.

Government buses run by HPRTC are of 4 main types:

  • Hi-Tech
  • AC Luxury coaches

The bus routes in Shimla covers all the important places within Shimla and it is very well distributed so that passengers could get buses from any part of Shimla. The primary focus of this bus services are at the Ring Road and its surrounding areas thereby all important tourist spots like Ridge, the Mall, Lakkar Bazar, Kali Bari etc gets covered.

Passengers get different types of concession for HPRTC buses. 10 % discount is offered to a group of 10 passengers. Discounts are offered if return tickets are purchased. Freedom fighters, MLAs, MPs, National award winners are offered free bus services on these buses.

Within the Shimla City, tourist buses are run everyday covering all important tourist spots in Shimla. HPTDC (Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation) organizes daily sightseeing tour as well as specialized tours. Customized tourism packages are also available so that tourists get sightseeing tours as per their choice. Seats for these sightseeing tours can be booked at the tourist information centers located at the Mall and the Railway Station.

Bus Stands of Shimla

The buses run by private travel services as well as HPTDC have buses running from various other places in Himachal Pradesh and outside it. These are deluxe buses that run overnight. Some of these buses run from Victory Tunnel Bus stand. They are buses to Delhi and Manali. The minimum bus fare starts from Rs. 404 and the minimum bus fare to Manali starts from Rs. 415. The buses for Chail, Tattapani and other surrounding areas leave from another bus stand at Lakkar Bazaar (Rivoli Bus Stand) which is located at the north side of the Ridge.

Government buses also leave from another large bus stand at Cart Road, the Inter State Bus terminal (ISBT).  It is better to book tickets well in advance to avoid last time disappointment.


Women Special Buses in Shimla

Buses especially meant for the ladies have been introduced by the Himachal Pradesh Government and that is why women travelers are relieved a lot. Two buses of JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission) are made “Ladies Special” buses so that women could travel safely and comfortably in Shimla and around. These buses are run by HRTC (Himachal Tourism Transport Corporation). These buses start at the Cart Road, which is circular in shape and covers all important areas of Shimla.

The bus services are available from 7 am in the morning to 8 pm at night. As per the HRTC MD, the buses may increase in number depending upon its demand. The minimum bus fare is Rs. 5 like all other JNNURM buses in Shimla.

Important Volvo Buses from Shimla

Private tour operators run Volvo buses from Shimla to important places like Delhi, Chandigarh, Manali etc. Tickets can be booked online for these buses.


Shimla to Delhi

There are varies of bus options to travel from Shimla to Delhi and vice versa. These buses are Volvo AC semi-sleeper, Volvo AC Seater and others.
