Arrival in Shimla

You can easily reach Shimla through all three types of transportation that is road, railway and the air. Shimla Airport is just 25 kilometer away from the main city. The nearest railway station is the Shimla railway station. You can also enjoy traveling with the toy train, which starts from Kalka and the last stop is Shimla. The most common transportation services are the bus, taxi and private cabs. You can get all of this transportation from the Delhi and Chandigarh. Shimla Main Bus Stand is located at the Ring Road. There are two types of bus services.

One is the commercial services of the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) and other is the bus services provided by the Private bus operators. The 1st bus departs to its destination at 7 am and the last bus departs at 9 pm. The buses connect all parts of the city. Some of the tourist spots are located on the mountain slopes or on the steep incline. At such places, you have to climb the slopes to visit the places.

How to get Around Shimla

The easiest way to get around the Shimla is to take the tourist buses which are managed and run by HRTC on daily basis. You can book your seat on these buses by visiting Tourist Information Center, which is located in the Mall.

Where to Eat and Drink in Shimla

The Ridge

Located in the central part of the city, The Ridge is an open and large space which is at one end of the Mall Road. Jakhoo Hill

From the Ridge, you can go to Jakhoo hill, as it is located just 2 kilometers away on a hill at the attitude of 2455 meter. It is the highest point of Shimla and you can see all the Shimla spread below you. You can also visit an old Hanuman Temple, which is located on the top of the hill. You can also hire a taxi or pony to visit the temple. But, remember there are lots of monkeys, who stay near the temple and accept the fruits or any other eatables. You can also walk through the dense deodar forests to reach the temple.


Christ Church

While on the Ridge, you can also visit the Christ Church, which is majestic and the second oldest church in North India. When you go inside the Church, you can see some stain glass windows, which represents various qualities such as humility, patience, charity, hope and faith.  You can spend some time here savoring the peace and beauty of the place.


Glen Forest

Glen forest is the reserved forest of the Shimla city and one of oldest picnic spots of the Shimla. There are two routes to visit the Glen forest; one goes through Cecil Hotel and other through Kennedy House. The Glen forest is a dense forest, which has deodar and pine trees. You can also visit Chadwick Waterfalls which is famous throughout the country. The forest is located at 1830 meters above the sea level. The Chadwick falls is located above 1586 meters high attitude.
