Picnic Spots in Shimla

Annadale

Annadale is another secluded picnic spot located behind the Glen.  This place was once the playground of Shimla and various sports like cricket, polo and racing used to happen here during the British Rule in India. The entire place is surrounded by Deodar Trees and has a very old temple at its edge.

Annadale, situated at a height of 6,117 ft, had been an important place where several entertainment and recreational Anglo-Indian activities take places. Varieties of other events like flower shows, birthday celebration etc. are organized here apart from regular arrangements of picnics.  Eating and drinking outlets are here from here picnickers can arrange their breakfast, lunch and snacks at affordable price. It is located near the Ridge.

The Glen

This picturesque spot in Shimla, the Glen is nestled among the forest of pine and deodar trees. It is located near the Chadwick Falls and offers wonderful view of the entire surrounding. Because of dense forests, the Glen is the house of different types of animals, insects and birds.  It is also a quaint picnic spot for the locals and the outsiders especially the people from the surrounding areas.  Starting early for reaching the Glen is important so that your group could enjoy the wonderful surroundings and even visit the Chadwick Falls that is nearby. Carrying food stuffs in sufficient amount is suggested as you will feel tired and hungry after you wander around in this wonderful hilly area for some time.

Indira Tourist Park

An ideal place to organize picnics and small outings on a weekend, India Tourist Park is only 19 km from Shimla more towards Fagu. In this tourist park, there are many types of recreational activities for adults as well as kids. Pony and Yak Rides can be enjoyed here. For food and beverages, picnickers do not have to worry at all as they have Café Lalit that is operated by HPTDC (Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation).  This park has a video game parlor and an ice cream parlor too. Drink lovers can go for beer in the beer bar present in the park premise.

Hip Hip Hurray Amusement Park

Located in Kurfi in Shimla District, this is one-of-its-kinds theme parks located about an altitude of 8500 ft. locals and outsiders come here to enjoy varieties of rides it has and many other activities they could enjoy here. Flying Fox, Burma Bridge Crossing, Rock Climbing, Indoor Golf, Commando Net, Boating, Bump Them Cars, and many other rides are present here making it a very alluring place for the adults as well as kids. After enjoying the rides, visitors can enjoy good food and drink at the restaurants and coffee shops present in this amusement park.

Shopping can also be done in between the picnic schedule. Through the telescope view, picnickers could enjoy the beautiful surrounding of this park during their outing.  From Shimla Town, it takes about 30 minutes to reach Kurfi which is only 13 km away. Picnickers can start early to reach this amusement park by 10 AM, have their breakfast and enjoy the wonderful rides and playing video games. After having lunch, they can just wander around, enjoy the entire place, do shopping and then start in the evening to come back Shimla.

Green Valley

Boundless beauty and serenity of the nature make Green Valley, a natural gorge near Shimla, one of the most popular places where locals as well as tourists organize picnic and outings throughout the day. Apart from enjoying picturesque lush green surroundings and tranquility of the place, picnickers can enjoy wild life watching. Yaks can be seen grazing and wandering around in their natural habitat and many birds and other wildlife creatures can also be seen here.

Mashorba

Otherwise known for its extremely beautiful surroundings, Mashorba has one of the most sought after picnic spots too. From Shimla, Mashorba can be reached in 30 minutes. Mashorba is a small village just located 10 km from Shimla on the Shimla-Naldehra road. The place offers astonishing surrounding fringed with oak and pine trees and offers soothing climate throughout the year. Sprawling gardens with colorful daffodils, celandines and a tranquil and well facilitated resort, Craignano Resort, 3 km away from Shimla makes Mashorba one of the most preferred picnic spots in Shimla.
